Jourdan Cameron interviewing McDROID at PAX
The thing about Jourdan is he asks heartfelt questions which take some soul searching.
This is where Jourdan Cameron dumps bits and pieces of his mind.

I remember back in the Avatar days… the typical fanart we would get would be a charming, childish crayon drawing stuffed in an envelope. Nowadays on Korra, I take a skewed screenshot with my phone, post it, and shortly thereafter someone un-skews it, crops it, separates the character levels, clones the background, “Ken Burns” it with a multilevel slide, animates the characters blinking and talking, tints it, and makes a GIF out of it, that I then see on the same phone with which I took the original picture. Times they are a-changin’…
P.S. In case it is unclear, I’m not upset, I’m just amused and amazed.
EDIT: Wait, I got it! A more appropriate classification for this: not fan art, but a fan retake.

Well, a good friend of mine gave me a piece of wood over the weekend; I’m practicing my carving on it. I’d like to do a nice art nouveau Prince of Persia (2008) themed relief on my final PC case. I just need to learn to carve. Below are a couple of my ideas for the side of the case- I’m thinking about using it for my final design minus the palace in the background. I also need to add in more… Art nouveau-ey elements, like a big arching circle and a bunch of little sub-circles and.. You know what? It could be a lot simpler.. Maybe exaggerate the Prince’s scarf? I could zoom in on him a (fair) bit and have the desert fill in the space around him. I want to include Elika somehow, perhaps I could draw and sculpt her standing alongside him? This DeviantArt group could be useful for inspiration.
Anyway, below is my idea. I’m suspecting the finished version will lack the palace, it’ll just have the sand dunes and include Elika somehow. It’ll also be more zoomed-in.

Pity I can’t really draw. Hopefully I’m better at sculpting.

My piece for Pixel Drip’s I’m the Avatar, Deal With It! art show coming up later this spring.
-C
(GET IT it’s like an old SEP cover because the show’s all old-tymey, I’m so brilliant)PixelDrip is putting together what promises to be a fantastic Korra fanart gallery show later this month, chock-full of art that people sent in physically and digitally. In addition to all the great art, there will be lots of fun activities and prizes packed into the two-day event. Mike and I, and some other Korra crew members, will likely be dropping by throughout the show. If you’re going to be in Los Angeles on March 23-24, and you’re a fan of Korra and you want to see some cool fanart (like this awesome piece by Claire Hummel) and hang out with other fans, get your tickets and come on down!
Thanks to PixelDrip for organizing this event. It means a lot to us that there are so many people who put so much energy and talent into their appreciation of our show and characters. If I can get my act together in time, I’ll be submitting something for the raffle… stay tuned. Info and links below:

I decided to ask the fine fellows over at Reddit for some advice building a PC out of wood and was quite pleased by the results.
Jeffrey Stephenson’s machine’s are definitely a good reference as he’s not only posted pictures of his builds but has included detailed pics of the actual process of building his gorgeous computer cases. I’ve posted a couple pictures of his work below:

You can get an on/reset button at any electronics parts store(if you can time travel to an 70s or 80s, even late 90s Radio Shack, they’d be able to help you, obviously not today), or order one online from a DIY computer parts place, or find somebody’s scrap case, take those parts off and run the wires, covering the buttons with wooden knobs if you want.
Ventilation? I’d suggest open holes with some filters, you can buy those standard off any number of sites as well (replacement ones for other cases, for example), and cover them with some sort of attractive grill.
The hard drives, I’d get one of the removable cages you can get (many cases have them now), and mount that to the wooden frame, rather than try to build a HDD holder out of wood itself. - Cobalthawk
This is a very literal take on “buildapc” but one I have thought about in the past. The most important thing will be good ventilation as the wood will be thicker and lower in thermal conductivity than standard case materials. Modeling from a standard case the main internal structure needed will be a hard drive mounting area, frame for mobo mounting, and an area for the psu.
It would be a good idea to plan out your hardware before going any further: number of hdd/ssd, mobo form factor and video card placement on board, and whether or not to include disc drive. Do you have much experience woodworking and access to tools? A router and miter saw could accomplish much of what you need, the biggest problem I foresee is the mounting of the mobo through wood, some extra hardware will be necessary. - Afartindolphin
IMPORTANT NOTE TO SELF: Get these little feet for the motherboard to sit on.
I still need to figure out how to carve wood and get some practice with carpentry tools. I’m still hoping somebody answers my question about a wireless mouse/keyboard that can be charged via USB.. Let me use my Google-fu… Ah-HA! The Logitech K800. It’s kinda pricy but looks to be worth it.
I also found a wireless mouse that recharges by USB for $20, but it’s discontinued. The Logitech G700 is my next option (and it’s also a fair bit more expensive).

Honestly, wouldn’t this be great as an art nouveau PC case? I’m going to start sketching designs ASAP.
I still haven’t gotten around to scanning in my design ideas for my new rig, but I do have a fresh idea for how I’ll carve the case- Prince of Persia.
Let me rephrase that a bit better: I was playing the 2008 version of Prince of Persia when I realized how well the game’s art style would fit into the art nouveau aesthetic- it’s got plenty of lines, very light, free-flowing design, and I think I might be able to make it work. Of course, the caveat is that I’ve never carved anything and I’m not very good at drawing things- it’ll be a challenge to create a design that encompasses an element from the game without exceeding my abilities, but I think I can do it.
One reason I especially like the idea is because one of the game’s mechanics, of a sort, was the way Elika (protagonist) always saves the Prince (player character) by reaching out and preventing him from falling to his death. The camera zooms in on her hand grabbing the Prince while surrounded by glowy blue energy. That got me to thinking about using it.

The above piece is really quite inspiring. I found it here on Deviantart. So, I’m going to set about to drawing some things and I’ll try to come up with a neat design.
Also, I must remember to get a Bluetooth PCI card. Must remember.
